What is Bitcoin Cash?

Bitcoin Cash

Overview

Bitcoin Cash is a proof-of-work network created from a Bitcoin chain split and focused on peer-to-peer cash use. BCH uses the same broad family of UTXO concepts but has its own chain history and development path.

History

Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin in 2017 after disagreements about scaling. Subsequent upgrades and additional splits shaped its current community, infrastructure, and market identity.

What to check now

Check node software, mining economics, upgrade proposals, wallet support, and merchant usage. BCH’s ticker and familiar name do not make it interchangeable with BTC.

Context warning. Chain splits, mining concentration, liquidity differences, and replay or wallet handling deserve explicit checks.

Market cap and volume help describe the scale and recent activity represented in this snapshot. They do not tell you how easily a specific order will execute, how concentrated ownership is, or whether a contract is secure.

Research checklist

Before you trust a token

Confirm the identity. Match the project name, ticker, contract address, and chain. Similar symbols can represent unrelated assets.

Check the market. Look beyond a percentage move: liquidity, spread, volume quality, holder concentration, and venue differences matter.

Read the contract context. A market-data feed is not an audit and cannot rule out minting, freezing, blacklist, or honeypot behaviour.
