Facebook announced Libra in June 2019. Regulatory opposition blocked a public launch. In January 2022 the association sold assets to Silvergate and shut down.
What failed
This is a political and regulatory abandonment, not a rug pull.
Current status
There is no official consumer Diem coin to buy. DEX tokens using those names should be treated as unrelated.
What users should do
- Do not buy unofficial Libra or Diem tokens claiming to be the Meta project.
Lessons
- A large corporate backer does not guarantee a launch.
